An articulation or speech sound disorder is when a child has difficulty pronouncing a sound and is usually difficult to understand. We provide articulation and phonological therapy with play-based approach in order to maximize your child's potential!
Articulation/Phonological therapy will increase your child's confidence and allow them to express thoughts clearly with peers and adults.
Gestalt Langugae Processing is a natural way to learn languge from "the top down". A Gestalt Language Learner learns language in chunks and are often observed to repeat/imitate language from a partner (echolalia). Some children move through the GLP language stages without issue while some get"stuck" in certain stages. Many Autistic children learn language this way!
Some hallmark characteristics of GLPs are:
- scripting tv shows/movies
- have difficulty answering questions
-stuck on single word use
Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is the disorder of motor planning for speech sound production. It differs from an articulation disorder in that it requires intensive therapy to establish motor plans for specific sounds/word structures.
During speech therapy for CAS your child will add new sounds and words to their inventory while also decreasing furstration and increasing confidence to communicate with peers and adults.
AAC is an alternative way for our non-speaking patients to communicate. We assess your child's specific needs to try and find the best fit to ease their frustration from not being able to verbally communicate.
At Light the Way, we offer assessments for AAC, assistance with the funding process, as well as programming your child's unique device.
